New Year’s Eve Recipes as seen on CTV Morning Live Ottawa

Whether you’re getting glammed up and entertaining a crowd on December 31st, or chilling in your PJs with your dogs (me!!) – you need to ring in the new year with good food. The following recipes are super simple to recreate, but look (and taste) like you spent hours in the kitchen. BONUS: both recipes use plenty of ingredients you likely have leftover from Christmas cooking/baking.

From my kitchen (sporting my PJs) to yours, Happy New Year!!

Gourmet Grilled Cheese with Herbed Compound Butter & Truffle Honey

Turn a classic comfort food into a simple (and to-die-for) holiday (or any day!) appetizer.

  • ¼ cup (60 mL) chopped mixed fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary & mint) or 2 tsp (10 mL) mixed dried herbs
  • pinch salt, pepper and garlic powder
  • 6 slices of Artisan bread
  • Thinly sliced aged cheddar and Brie cheese (*or cheese of choice)
  • *approx* 1 tbsp (15 mL) each of quality truffle oil and liquid honey

Directions

  1. Stir together butter, chopped mixed herbs, salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  2. Spread butter mixture evenly on both sides of each slice of bread.
  3. Divide cheese evenly on 3 slices of bread and top with remaining bread.
  4. Grill sandwiches (*on both sides) in a skillet over medium heat until golden.
  5. Remove from heat. Cut into quarters and drizzle evenly with truffle oil and honey.
